THE first entries for the February section of our photography competition have already begun arriving.
After a flood of snowy pictures during January, entrants are becoming more creative to find striking scenery without the help of a covering of snow.

This image of seagulls in the Wilderness car park in Wetherby was captured by Naomi Barrow last Saturday. Other photographs have included landscapes, animals, people and buildings from across the district.

Open to all ages, the competition offers the chance for amateur photographers to hone their skills and highlight the scenes, events and people that we are most proud of.

We'll publish as many entries as we can in the Wetherby News and every month we'll choose a winner, with help from our chief photographer, Marcus Corazzi.

The best entries will show something about that month in the picture, such as dramatic weather or a significant event, and will highlight something of our wonderful towns, villages or countryside.

At the end of the year, an overall champion will be chosen and will receive a family pass to Harewood House for a year, worth £110.

Harrogate-based Your Art on Canvas print the winning photo on canvas, while the 11 runners up from each month will receive a £20 gift voucher from the firm.

Photographs can be of anything in our patch, which covers Wetherby, Tadcaster and the many surrounding villages stretching to the edges of York, Harrogate and Leeds.

Photographers must also live in the area and the picture must not have been published anywhere else.

Entries must have been taken in 2010 and will be judged against other entries from the same month. Entrants may only enter one photograph each month, but may enter for as many of the months as they wish.

To enter, send us:
• Your name, address and contact number
• Your photograph as a jpeg (no larger than 3mb), on a CD or as a print
• Details of where and when the photograph was taken
Entries can be emailed to wetherby.news@ypn.co.uk (no larger than 3mb) or posted to 9 Westgate, Wetherby, LS22 6LL. Please clearly mark all correspondence "photography competition".
