RESIDENTS in Scholes could soon have their Post Office service re-instated thanks to a local businessman.
Satnam Chana, who runs the convenience store at the corner of Station Road and Rakehill Road, has applied to have a Post Office counter within his shop.

The previous Post Office store closed in December following the departure of its postmaster. No replacement was available, leaving villagers to travel to Barwick or Thorner for postal services.

Community leaders, including Wetherby MP Colin Burgon and ward councillor Ann Castle, asked for the service to be reinstated as a matter of urgency.

A Post Office spokesman said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers by the temporary closure of Scholes Post Office.

“We're in discussions with an interested party about reopening the branch and we're committed to restoring service to the community as soon as possible."
