MEMBERS of Boston Spa School's enterprise team are building up to the final of the AMP awards.
With the help of Kaley Gardiner, founder of website The Last Detail, the students have been working for weeks to raise money and awareness for the competition.

The AMP awards gives young bands and performers the chance to showcase their ability to a wide audience, while also requiring an enterprise team to put their business skills into practise to ensure the event runs smoothly.

After organising a heat at the school to find a band to represent them, Boston Spa students are now looking forward to helping run the final at the Royal Hall in Harrogate on Wednesday, February 10.

The team has already enlisted support from businesses across the region and raised funds for charity Pump Aid, which helps supply clean water to communities in Africa.

Business partnership co-ordinator Jane Green, who brought the team together, said: "I'm incredibly proud of the team at Boston Spa – they've developed their skills to communicate with businesses, raising money through collaborating and negotiating on raffle prizes as well as becoming more competent in the art of teamwork, time-keeping and general self confidence – it's been an amazing journey for everyone involved."

Business mentor Kaley Gardiner added: "It's a pleasure to be asked to part of the mentoring scheme at Boston Spa School.

"After setting up my own business a number of years ago I've been through the motions of having to self teach myself business skills. I recognise now just how helpful and valuable it would have been to have gained an understanding of corporate culture before setting up on my own.

"Enterprise schemes such as the one offered at Boston Spa School have allowed me to share my knowledge and support the team in developing all round business acumen. It's been a fantastic experience for me watching the student move from being relatively shy and unsure of themselves to becoming conscientious and professional and projecting this image to external businesses.

"The opportunity the AMP awards has provided has allowed the students to come into contact with situations and people they would never normally have had access to. I hope more programmes like this come into fruition through it's success - I simply can't wait for the glittering lights of the final night."
