A FIRE has caused extensive damage to a barn near Tadcaster.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze at the straw-filled barn in Gorse Lane just before 1am on Saturday.

Crews were on site for several hours as they tried to bring the fire under control.

A spokeswoman for the service said a tractor was being used to try to drag some of the 25 tonnes of straw away from the tin-roofed barn, which measures about 20m by 10m.

Two appliances from Tadcaster and one from Selby were at the scene, with support from an aerial appliance.

Cuts to Tadcaster Fire Service could have knock on effects for Wetherby. What is the minimum service Tad needs?
Full time cover?
Retained (on call) cover?
