CHRISTMAS has arrived early at one festive house in Harrogate thanks to thousands of lights and more than one hundred Santas.
Bringing cheer to neighbours and children, the colourful home in St Andrew’s Avenue is raising money for two worthy causes.

Jonathan Driver helped create the Christmas spectacle at his in-laws Fred and Margaret Boreham’s house with Fred’s brother John, sons Paul and Mick and grandsons, Joe and Ryan.

Also behind the scenes decorating inside the house along with Margaret is daughter Janet, daughter-in-laws Heather and Denise and granddaughter Paige. Heather has made up to 300 envelopes of reindeer food to hand out to children as they come to the house.

The annual display, in aid of Henshaws and the Air Ambulance, has taken around 46 man hours to put together and, with an estimated 115 Santas and 10,000 twinkling bulbs, is bigger and better than ever before.

The festive set has been built upon ever year since 1990 and now includes a Santa's grotto and a nativity scene with the star of Bethlehem above it.

Following last weekend’s big lights switch-on in Starbeck, families have been flocking to see the bright house in St Andrew’s Avenue, off Knaresborough Road.

Jonathan said: “We all enjoy the visit of the people. Last year we had people from as far as New York and Tokyo joining people travelling down from Newcastle and York who have heard of the lights.

“Word does get around and we hope to raise as much money as possible for the charities. It is always a delight to see the children when they come to see the lights, that is what makes it all worthwhile.”
