HARROGATE Town chairman Bill Fotherby has admitted it was a "difficult decision," to cut concession costs after some supporters revealed their frustration with the club's new ticket prices this week.
Town have reduced the admission from £12 to £10 across the board for the forthcoming campaign but their decision to remove concessions for OAPs and students has raised concern among fans.
Fotherby is aware of the objections but insists he simply “can’t please everyone” with their new price structure and said the board thought about it long and hard before making a decision.
“You’re not going to please everyone,” said Fotherby.
“We’ve thought long and hard about the new prices and it’s been a difficult decision.
“You’re always going to get some people who aren’t happy with the decision but we’ve also had a lot of positive response from other fans.”
Town’s older fans have expressed their concern after the new ticket pricing will mean they will now have to pay £10 at the gate.
Town fan John Ward said he spoke for many who were shocked at a move he feels will put pensioners out of pocket.
“I’ve been talking to a lot of pensioners and they are quite upset by this,” he said.
“Making people pay £10 instead of £6 maybe a bit too steep for some of the fans.”
On the pitch Town have unveiled former Bury goalkeeper Jim Provett as their fifth new signing of the summer after he agreed terms at Wetherby Road this week.
He joins Justin Whittle, Ryan Toulson, Nicky Gray and Jamie Smith at the club.
“We are pleased to announce the signing of a football league goalkeeper,” said Town General Manager Alan Williams.
“The chairman is very happy with the signing.”
Meanwhile the Blue Square North fixtures have also been announced this week with Town handed a home match for their first game of the season against Vauxhall Motors.
Neil Aspin’s side will reignite their battle with Yorkshire rivals Farsley on Boxing Day, followed by the trip to Throstle Nest on New Year’s Day.
