NEW Harrogate Railway manager Dave Morgan is targeting promotion to the UniBond top flight next season insisting they are not there to "simply make up the numbers."
Morgan was officially unveiled as the new boss at Station View on Tuesday after making the jump from his role as Vinnie Brockie’s assistant last season.

Faced with a hectic pre-season, Morgan is looking forward to reshaping the side with assistant Stuart Waddington in as number two.

Morgan also has his eyes on one or two high profile names he feels will make Rail’ a force to be reckoned with next season.

“I’m pleased the club appointed me but it means the hard work of getting the team sorted and ready for the new season starts now,” said Morgan.

“Next season you never know what’s going to happen, we could run away with the league, we could be battling relegation.

“But we’ve got to be positive and I believe we have a good chance of pushing for a promotion place.

“We’re not coming here to simply make up the numbers.

“We’ve had two seasons in this division now so we know what it’s all about but it’s all about putting that into action.”

The new boss was delighted to beat off some firm competition to land the top job at Station View after a lengthy selection process over the last few weeks.

Chairman Rob Northfield revealed former Sheffield United and Watford player David Holdsworth was one of the front runners, as was Ray Hanklin, former Liversedge boss Eugene Lacy and Gary Brook.

“There were one or two high-profile names who were interviewed for the job so obviously I was delighted to be named manager,” continued Morgan.

“It was great that they gave me it because I’ve been involved in non league football for a long time and I thought it’s about time I made the step up.

“Now it’s all about sorting the team out.

“I’ve always said that we are a match for anyone in this league but we just needed three or four additions to build a really quality squad.”

Morgan has revealed he is on the look out for a top class centre forward as well as bolstering other positions around the park.

One name mooted is former Huddersfield Town, Bolton and more recently Wycombe Wanderers livewire Delroy Facey, a player Morgan has his eyes honed on.

“My assistant Stuart Waddington has a lot of contacts around the Huddersfield area and we’re hoping that can work in our favour,” he added.

“Delroy’s brother is definitely coming to pre season training and we know that Delroy isn’t fixed up with a club yet so we hope he might fancy coming down too.

“But we’re also trying to keep the rest of the squad together.
