CHAIRMAN Rob Northfield will name Dave Morgan's replacement at Station View "within days" after the shock resignation of the Harrogate Railway manager earlier this week.
Morgan quit after Monday’s 2-0 UniBond League Cup exit at the hands of Durham City but revealed he made up his mind after Saturday’s last-minute 3-2 defeat at Colwyn Bay.

The former boss claims responsibility for Rail’s shocking start to the season which has seen them draw two and lose ten of their 12 competitive fixtures.

Assistant boss Stuart Waddington will now take over the side for tomorrow’s FA Trophy clash against FC Halifax Town (home 3pm ko) with Northfield already in talks with interested parties about the vacant position.

“I’m talking to one or two people at the moment,” said Northfield.

“I expect something within days because it’s important we get back to the task at hand. I can’t name names but I can say they have more experience than Dave.”

It’s been a bit like Groundhog Day at Station View this campaign with Morgan’s tenure at the club soured by Rail’s last-minute goal problem which has cost them on five separate occasions this season.

On the opening day Lancaster City nipped a 3-2 victory with a 89th minute strike.

Then three days later Rail’ were leading 2-1 before Rossendale United grabbed a draw after scoring in stoppage time.

Their 2-1 defeat against Mossley also featured a last minute goal, as did September’s 2-2 draw with Chorley.

However it was Saturday’s devastating 3-2 defeat that proved the final straw for Morgan who was inconsolable on his long journey home from Colwyn Bay.

With just one minute to go Rail’ were destined for their first three points of the campaign after an own goal and a Matty Morgan strike put them 2-1 in front.

However somehow Bay came back from the dead, scoring in the 89th and 90th minute respectively to break Rail’ hearts yet again.

“My gut feeling was when that third goal went in on Saturday, I knew it then,” said Morgan.

“I wanted to step down then but I realised it was too close to the cup game on Monday so I carried on but my decision was already made.

“I just felt the time was right. You look back on it and think about all those last minute goals and they have been a factor but I’m not using them as an excuse.

“I hold my hands up to everything, the results didn’t go our way but that’s not an excuse at all, we weren’t and I wasn’t good enough and I’m big enough to say that.

“Hopefully the new person who comes in can change it around.
