DESPITE a gruelling schedule in intense heat Harrogate Vets are celebrating after becoming the winners of the Seniors World Cup on Saturday.
After the drama of Friday night's penalty shoot out victory over Iran,
the final against Australia had its own twist as the game had to be abandoned in the second half due to a torrential monsoon rainstorm on an already sodden pitch with England winning 1-0 through an Ian Simpson goal.

Simpson also picked up the player of the tournament award.

Five wins out of five made it a perfect competition for Harrogate Veterans who had also picked up silverware by beating a Bangkok Veterans X1 9-1 the previous weekend in a warm up match.

The final was the squad's sixth game in eight days. They are flying back to Manchester today.
