THE league and Waddilove Cup dominates this weekend's fixture list and Beckwithshaw captain Charlie Lister is praying for two positive results in two crucial clashes.
On Saturday it’s top versus bottom when ‘Shaw travel to basement boys Pool (1.30pm start), a side still searching for their first victory of the 2008 league campaign.
‘Shaw will be stand out favourites but their skipper is not resting on his laurels especially with his side away from their home fortress.
“I’m quite surprised at how they’ve started the season but sometimes you get starts like that,” said Lister.
“But we’re not taking anything for granted. We know they’ve got some good players and they do have strength in depth.
“I don’t know too much about their overseas Kervon Christmas but he’s got big shoes to fill after Atiba Allert last year who was one of the best bowlers to play in the league for a while.”
Then on Sunday it’s ‘Shaw’s much anticipated showdown with local rivals Follifoot (away 1.30pm start), something Lister is certainly looking forward to.
“We get on very well with Follifoot and a lot of our players know them very well,” he continued.
“There’s a friendly rivalry. It should be a good game and it’s a cup I really want to do well in this year.”
On Saturday tight bowling by Paul Thompson helped restrict then-leaders Guiseley to just 186-7.
However Phil Critchley’s superb 91 and Stuart Carey’s 36 pulled ‘Shaw home on 188-4.
Carl Heptinstall’s BILTON will also be eyeing a double salvo, starting tomorrow when they welcome Kirkstall Education.
Then a day later the four time Waddilove winners welcome Ilkley in the first round of the competition.
On Saturday Shane Murdoch’s 3-54 and Heptinstall’s 3-32 contained Adel to 184-9.
However in response only Jamie Stockton’s 35 did any damage as the away side slipped to 104 all out.
“I was annoyed with our game at Adel last week as I think we were the better team for most of the game,” said Heptinstall.
“But we made mistakes and we got punished for them and hopefully that’s a lesson to be learnt.”
Meanwhile ‘Shaw’s Waddilove opponents FOLLIFOOT are still near the higher reaches of Division B despite last weekend’s slip-up against Silsden.
Tomorrow Paul Angove’s men visit mid-table Harden in the league.
Last weekend Silsden posted a competitive 206-9, Dale Bradley marking his return from injury with 4-37.
In response Mike Halmshaw top scored with 37 for the ‘Foot as they held on for a point at 137-8.
Still in Division Two KNARESBOROUGH have firmly put their Bardsey nightmare behind them after a dominant display led by Aussie Dale Tormey last week.
Tomorrow Adam Pryor’s men welcome new boys Colton to Aspin Lane.
On Saturday Neil Marshall 4-35 and Tormey’s 3-46 saw Calverley collapse to 146 all out. In response his brilliant 82 not out saw ‘Boro’ home.
“It was important we got straight back in the saddle after last week,” said Pryor.
“Colton will be a difficult game.
