HARROGATE District Diving Club elite divers Jack Laugher and Oliver Dingley both competed at the GB Elite Junior Diving Championships in Leeds recently, with Jack claiming an incredible four golds from all four events.
Not only did he take some medals home with him, he also took Personal Bests on all boards.
In the 1m event, 13-year-old Ripon resident Jack finished on a score of 335.25 from eight dives, 23.45 points ahead of his nearest rival.
On the 3m, Jack produced another PB of 388.25, scoring 9s from all five judges for one of his eight dives and finishing 23.25 points ahead of the diver in second place. But it was on the Platform where Jack’s supremacy really shone, with a fantastic PB score of 354.65, including the highest score of this event – 68.60 for one of his seven dives - and a massive 55.85 points ahead of his rivals.
In the 3m Synchro event, Jack competed with Jack Haslam from City of Sheffield, finishing on 265.50, just over 32 points ahead of the pack and scoring a massive 66.36 on their final dive.
“Jack was on fire at these Nationals, he really produced some outstanding dives and deserved to win all four events,” said Damian Ball, Head Coach and Harrogate Borough Council’s Head of Diving Development.
“No one from our club has done this before and he is well on track for 2012; his results ranked as one of the highlights from the whole championships and he has done the club and himself proud.”
Oliver, 15 and from Harrogate also pulled out some PBs on the 1m and 3m, competing in the Boys 16+ events.
He finished third in the 1m prelims competition, scoring 413.35 from ten dives including a Reverse 2½ Tuck.
Unfortunately he couldn’t maintain his form in the final, finishing just outside the medals in fourth place.
In the 3m prelims, Oliver qualified in second spot on 453.40 from ten dives, including a Forward 3 ½ Pike, but then missed out on the bronze in the final by only 2.6 points.
“Oliver picked up a back injury whilst training in preparation for this event,” said Damian Ball, “so he was not on top of his game.
“The injury almost ended his competitive season so it was a real success just to be taking part and to finish with two fourth places amongst a tough competitive field is a real credit to him.”
Both boys train at Harrogate Borough Council’s Hydro Pool.
