Academy begin season with Racquets victory

CHAMPIONS Academy opened their new season with a 7-2 victory against Harrogate Racquets A team in Division One of the Slazenger Harrogate and District Tennis League.
The new champions were led at first string by Dave Brown and Sue Ryder who remained undefeated in their three matches without dropping a set.

The pair defeated Jim Haddleton and Lisa Anderson 6-0, 6-4; Andy Christie and Yvonne Richards 6-3 and Ric
hard Shannon and Sarah Jackson 6-0 6-2.

Academy's other victories were secured by Dave Whitelaw and Ire Strigalova along with Chris Sorby and Amanda Finney.

In Division Three West Tanfield celebrated their promotion in style with a 9-0 away win over Ripon B.

Tanfield's winning pairings were Vince Taylor and Judith Abel; Chris Chapman and Cath Halladay along with Danny McCann and Irene Almack.
