HARROGATE Town football club have had a great season and are also toasting success with their latest sportsman's evening.
A record turn-out of 140 guests were present at Pavilions of Harrogate to hear World Cup legend Gordon Banks. Gordon, one of the game's greatest ever goalkeepers, entertained his audience with stories of the 1966 World Cup success and that famous save against Brazilian Pele in the 1970 competition.

Comedy was provided by Josh Daniels and the event raised nearly £2,000 for club funds. A collection was made for the Macmillan ward at Harrogate District Hospital and the auction items reflected the glory days of Leeds United and boasted items associated with top Premier League sides Manchester United and Arsenal.

The vote of thanks was given by Harrogate Town chairman Bill Fotherby, who described the evening as an "unqualified success and the best event the club have had for some time".
