IT'S approaching that time of year to start thinking about university applications. Emma Greatorex, from St Aidan's Sixth Form, is already thinking ahead;
LAST week I found out that the Robert group universities decided not to accept the "soft subject" A levels for all of their courses.
For some of us we're not going to be affected but for others its going to be a nightmare.
Soft subjects inclu
de courses such as Media studies, Business studies and Travel and tourism are on the list and to my delight they're all of the subjects I study apart from English language which thankfully passes their standards.
But what I can't understand is that many of these universities offer courses like Business but don't accept the A level equivalent surely this is pointless because students will need some background knowledge of the subject to carry it on at degree level?
For me I want to study Broadcast Journalism and Radio production two subjects which I enjoy and want to succeed further.
But, I'm finding that a few of the universities I want to go to don't like these soft subjects but thankfully there are other alternatives, but unfortunately for others it may not be the case.
Like most of you, this week I will be going to the UCAS fair to find out information about different matters and to be also given as many prospectuses as I can carry.
I hope that this will help me stand by my course choice and the universities I want to apply to.
It's only the start of the applications and a few of us are already worrying!
