ON the night of Thursday April 10, Harrogate High School held an awards evening for the AS and A2 media studies students.
The Y13 students showed their video productions on any topic of their choice, whereas Y12s created productions based on the brief given by the exam board.

Their brief was to promote healthy eating using the working title You Are what you Eat.

Although they had to work from the same topic, the students could decide on their own style, genre and target audience, consequently producing eight very different moving pictures.

Throughout the evening a range of awards were presented to students by various guests such as headteacher Paul Tarn, assistant headteacher Saira Luffman, Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Phil Willis, and Stephen Brown, a film critic.

The awards for Y13 were given to; Rob Gath, for best cinematography, Susanna Wright, for most professional production and most promising filmmaker, and Anna Jackson, for most well researched production.

The awards for Y12s were; Hollie O'Brian for most promising filmmaker and Claire Boden for the film that most fits the brief.

However all the films were outstanding and the evening was a success.

It was held in the upper school hall at Harrogate High School, which was transformed to mimic the Brits.

Focus group meetings were organised to gather feedback to give filmmakers the best possible chance to improve their films ready for the examiner to the see.

Refreshments and popcorn were given to guests, in return we asked them to fill out the filmmakers questionnaires.

The evening had an outstanding feedback and comments; it was really a night to remember.

Next year students plan to organise the evening them selves and gain funding from a sponsor to minimise costs so the students can really splash out! Maybe there will be awards for all the students.

Special thanks go to Phil Willis, Stephen Brown, Karen Bridget, Nina Jolly, Ian Curtis and of course Saira Luffman and Paul Tarn.
