Coffee Morning: It is always wonderful when young people lead the way in helping others and Ellie Phillips and best friend Jessica Bassitt, who are both nine years old and attend Hampsthwaite CE Primary School, have been so upset by the recent media coverage of the disaster in Haiti, they have been spurred on to arrange a coffee morning. This will be held in the Village Room, Hampsthwaite between 10am and midday tomorrow, Saturday February 6 and all are very welcome to go along. It is hoped to r
Village Society, Hampsthwaite: The Hampsthwaite Village Society was set up “to promote the character and amenities of the village and to promote activities of interest to the member.” Anyone in the local area who would like to join this very active a
nd well supported group can get in touch with, Chairman Stuart Jennings on 01423 770509 or treasurer, Richard Walker on 01423 770261 or just go along to the next meeting; Thursday, March 4, 7.15pm at the Memorial Hall and introduce yourself to Richard.

February will be quite a busy month with two events on the programme; the first one being the Society's annual dinner which will be held, as usual, at the Millstones Restaurant on Thursday February 11. The entertainment will be provided by Songbirds. The coach leaves the Memorial Hall in Hampsthwaite at 6.15pm. The second takes place on Thursday, February 25 and is a visit to Alan Ayckbourn’s Absent Friends at Harrogate Theatre which will be preceded by a fish and chip supper at Graveley’s Restaurant. The coach will leave the Memorial Hall at 5.45pm.

Diamonds at Darley: You don’t either have to be young or a farmer to enjoy this year’s dance hosted by the Felliscliffe Young Farmers' Club. Last year entertainment was provided by the band the 'Diamonds' who provided live music at its best. They are making a return to Darley Memorial Hall on February 27 at 8am for this annual fundraiser. I know from experience the buffet is always wonderful. Tickets are £12.50 with a reduction for youngsters. To reserve places ring 01423 770489 or 770246, but these are sure to go fast after last year’s sell out event.

Hampsthwaite Wild Things: On Tuesday January 26, John McPartlan chaired an open meeting in the Village Room to discuss the possibility of creating a wildlife garden in Hampsthwaite. Nigel Heptinstall, chairman of Harrogate & District Biodiversity Action Group, put forward his ideas. After much discussion, another meeting was arranged for Tuesday March 2, 7.30pm at Village Room to discuss how to raise awareness of local wildlife in and around the village. The Gardening Club and Village-in-Bloom members offered support and promotion of the project . If you are interested and would like further information contact: John McPartlan:Telephone 771365 or e-mail:john@mcparland.net or go along to the March meeting.
