From Ian Mitchell. Executive Managing Director, Lido Leisure Parks, Knaresborough.
I DROVE into Manse Lane recently and to my horror I noticed, (well it hit me square in the face) that a good 100 foot of natural hedge had been ripped out and replaced with a horrible and unsightly palisade metal fence.

As a company we are very much involved in the David Bellamy Conservation Scheme and for the last seven years we have been awarded by David the top Gold award for our efforts in conservation.

It pains me deeply to see such things be allowed to happen when our bird population is decreasing each year because we are taking away their nature habitat and in this case replaced it with something ugly.

If this has been done for security reasons, I have to say a large mature hedge is more secure than this fence.

People should stop and think about our future generations because at this rate they are not going to be able to enjoy our wildlife.
