From: Simon Ashton, Olive Grove, Harrogate.
I WOULD like to respond to Mr Fotherby's recent comments (about Harrogate Town) and add my 'two penneth'. I am upset by the fact that Mr Fotherby has said on several occasions that Harrogate is not a football town. Rubbish!
If he had cared to vent
ure into Harrogate or Knaresborough during the World Cup 2006 or Euro 2004 he would have noticed hundreds of England fans filling the pubs, cheering on the Three Lions. It would have been the same this year if we had qualified. If he has a spare 10 minutes on May 21 after 8pm, why not go to the one of the bars screening the Champions League final to see how many people are there!
Just to enlighten you, Mr Fotherby, as to the reason why people don't come to watch 'Town'...The Price! Attendances against Torquay and Railway prove that we love football in Harrogate but we are not stupid and won't pay over the odds. As an experiment for one game this coming season, why not try reducing ticket prices by half, or give a percentage off with a voucher printed in the Advertiser or a two tickets for the price of one.
If you do this during the higher leagues international break then I'm sure attendance would double.
