From: Daniel Maguire, Labour Party Agent for Harrogate District elections, Hurstleigh Terrace, Harrogate.
WHILST the recent local government elections were disappointing, to say the least, for the Labour Party on a national level, locally we had some excellent results. Our vote in the rural wards, some of which we had not contested for the previous ten y
ears, was small but encouraging and I should like to take the opportunity to thank all those who voted Labour.

However, one result in particular was worthy of note. In Ouseburn ward our candidate, John Fisher, very nearly beat the LibDems into third place. Contrary to the result printed in last week’s Harrogate Advertiser, the Labour vote was 123 against a LibDem vote of just 134!

From Coun Anthony Alton, Kirk Deighton, Wetherby

AS THE re-elected member for the Claro ward, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all those who supported and voted for me in the recent local elections and to all the helpers who worked tirelessly around the villages on my behalf.

In the coming months I shall continue to speak up for all the electorate in the ward and maintain pressure, on behalf of the rural community, for a more even share of funding and services from Harrogate Borough Council.

From: Coun Shirley Fawcett, School Lane, Spofforth.

MAY I, through your paper, thank everyone who voted for me in the Spofforth with Lower Wharfedale Ward at the local elections. I look forward to representing and working with everyone in the future once again.
