From: David Crisp, Deighton Road, Wetherby.
YESTERDAY we received the promised wheelie bin for garden waste which I promptly used for the week’s clippings. The bin is now a quarter full.

I have yet to displace something from my drive to allow me to site wheelie bin number three but I will m
anage I am sure.

I do think it is not quite the right approach though – we have a fortnightly collection to look forward to (okay not all year round) whilst we enjoy a mere monthly collection all year for general recyclable waste.

I personally would prefer a monthly collection for grass clippings since I won't fill the new wheelie bin in a two week cycle. On the other hand a fortnightly collection for general recyclables would be beneficial.

The junk mail syndrome and the excess packaging syndrome means I fill my recyclables wheelie bin within two weeks of it being emptied. I even manage to have a few bags ready for the newly emptied bin as soon as it has been collected. I often throw the remaining recyclables away for normal waste collection because the collection team will not take more than the contents of the official bin(s). I have tried to leave bagged recyclable waste and have watched the collecting teams simply throw it to one side and leave it alongside my newly emptied bin.

I would also wish to convince the council that we do need to get rid of glass and not just by throwing it onto the nearest verge or into the gutter. I have noticed that Harrogate Council seem to collect glass using seperate boxes as the receptical for storage.

I currently make regular trips to the Thorp Arch recycle centre to dispose of selected recyclable waste but will be making less frequent trips as the petrol price rises.
