AS reported over the last few months, Mick Walsh, Chief Executive of Harrogate Borough Council, is to retire this summer. Many of us involved with Harrogate and Knaresborough Labour Party have worked with Mr Walsh at election time as he has fulfilled the role of Returning Officer since 1991.

Most people do not see the tremendous effort that goes into holding local elections – not just the very long election day itself, but many months of preparation before.

Mr Walsh and his team have always run very efficient elections, and I would like to wish him all the very best on behalf of everyone in the Labour Party who has worked with him directly and indirectly.
