MY regular visits to Harrogate, usually by bus which, with my concessionary pass, are free off-peak.
However, I gave the train a try, and at £6.10 return from Leeds, found it quite expensive. A return from Leeds to Manchester, over twice the distance, is only £6.50.
North Yorkshire is a beautiful county, but with one virtually needing a cheque book in order to use public transport, there is little incentive to visitors who do not drive.
Only last Saturday I spent a very enjoyable afternoon in Pateley Bridge, which, travel wise, did not cost a penny.
Before April this year it would have been out of the question. Public transport subsidies are needed in North Yorkshire, if only to make public transport more accessible for the over 60s.
