From: Rowena Richardson, Williamson Drive, Ripon.
I AGREE with Pete Colman (Letters, July 27) regarding the need for a quality live music venue in Ripon. However, I disagree with his view that there is nothing going on, gig-wise in the city.

Since December last year, Ripon has been treated to som
e fantastic live music acts, courtesy of David Moss-Blundell of DMB Live Music Promotions. Not just local bands bands but some top-quality international, signed acts.

Just some of the brilliant acts that have come and played in our city thanks to DMB, in the last few months include:

l Californian Jacob Golden, who went on to play live on Jools Holland on BBC2 shortly afterwards.

l John Power, formerly of The La’s and lead singer of Britpop band Cast, who once headlined Glastonbury.

l Red Light Company, who supported Scottish star Colin MacIntyre and are currently all over Radio One. They played at Glastonbury this weekend!

The gigs appeal to a broad range of people, from indie-pop for the younger end of the spectrum to some fantastic country and pop artists, such as Kim Richey from Nashville, who I saw play at Hugh Ripley Hall last month and who was sensational.

DMB has also got no less than Johnny Cash’s former lead guitarist playing in US singer Eve Selis’s band a week on Sunday (July 13) – again at Hugh Ripley Hall.

Without doubt, Ripon is crying out for a bespoke live music venue so we can get more of this type of entertainment – at the moment DMB is having to play in different venues.

But, as Mr Coleman said, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and if we can show there is a demand for this type of event then maybe it will give someone the impetus to go on and provide us with such a place.

So for Pete’s sake lets support this local promoter. His website is at www.dmblivemusic.co.uk by the way.
