CYCLING back on the Stray – not only has our spineless council given in to the moaners, indeed they seem to actually support them along with the Harrogate Advertiser.

It will also mean that our police will have the perfect excuse not to bother enforcing the law.

If cycling on the Stray is made lawful on selected paths, 'all other paths would be for pedestrian use only and we would expect to enforce any contravention.'

It's not enforced now! So hence just who would enforce the law in the future?.

The police can’t be bothered, the council has no power to stop moving vehicles, and CSOs have no powers to enforce local by-laws on the Stray. CSOs do have the power to issue £30 fixed penalty notices to illegal cyclists riding on the pavement under the August 1999 Act, but they never do!

If cyclists are too scared to ride on the road then they should not be cycling. The roads in Harrogate are tame compared to some roads that I have cycled on.

Pedestrians are a special case, that's why we have pavements.
