From: Patrick Clarke, Harlow Grange Park, Harrogate.
THERE will never be a better opportunity for Harrogate Town and Harrogate Rugby Club to resolve their ground problems – by ground sharing at Claro Road.

The snag is the rugby club agreed to sell their ground at the end of 2009 to builders Crest Homes.

However, the ongoing economic and mortgage problems has resulted in the national housebuilding industry being in difficulties with sales reported down by two-thirds, causing many of them to reconsider their land banks.

Harrogate Council has said planning permission will not be given for housing on the Claro Road ground, and the whole area has been designated for future sport and recreation.

The two clubs should get together with the council to approach Crest Homes (who have already paid a substantial deposit) to negotiate buying the ground back. No other site in the town would be as well situated, and with three pitches and ample car parking space, it would be a great asset for future generations .
