From: Betty Simpson, Clotherholme Road, Ripon.
I WOULD like to convey my best wishes to Dave Hirst and his wife for a very happy and healthy retirement (Ripon Gazette, May 2).

Dave and I have something in common regarding getting up at 4.30am – when Mr Campbell bought the shop he had no transport and my husband and I drove taxis, so every morning I got up at 4.30am, picked Mr Campbell up and took him to the station for the 5am train to collect his papers. Sometimes RAF personnel would want a taxi to take them to Dishforth, which meant me getting my husband to take them as I had four children to get ready for school.

Dave was always very pleasant, kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for him and I really do wish them both a happy retirement.
