From Coun Bob Nash. Chair of the Licensing Committee.
IN his crude attempt to criticise my colleague Coun Andrew Jones in the letters column in the Knaresborough Post edition August 1, Coun Webber made a couple of incorrect assertions.

Andrew sought the views of local people on a potential licence fo
r the Lidl supermarket, and he forwarded them to the Licensing Committee so that local people were being heard. The comments forwarded contained those both for and against the granting of a licence – the point is someone is interested in the views of local residents.

Readers may be interested to know that the original make up of the committee was two Liberal Democrats and one Conservative. A Knaresborough Lib Dem councillor turned up for the meeting, but councillors do not decide on applications in their own wards. Shamefully, he did not know Lidl was in his own ward so had to go home again. The stand by councillor was a Conservative, and so the final make up of the committee was two Conservatives and one Liberal Democrat.

Rather than attempting to score political points, Coun Webber should understand that more listening to local people would be a good idea.
