Festival to celebrate everything connected with Dales

THE annual Nidderdale Festival starts today and celebrates everything connected with the Dale, featuring a wealth of activities and exhibitions.
Running till Sunday, July 20, the festival is offering a chance for both locals and visitors to get to know the area and its talented inhabitants with outdoor activities such as guided walks, rock climbing and canoeing, plus the opportunity to look r
ound Darley’s open gardens as well as visit art exhibitions, theatre and music shows, workshops and talks.

Exhibitions will be held at various venues in the area and included is a wedding dress exhibition at Bewerley Grange Chapel.

Friday, July 4

l Folk, Blues and Ragtime Guitar from orld renowned Stefan Grossman at St Cuthberts Church, Pateley Bridge at 8pm.

Saturday, July 5

l Knaresborough Brass Band from 2pm to 4pm at the Joe Longster Bandstand, Pateley Bridge.

l Jazz night with the Happy Chappies, including Pie ’n’ Pea supper, 8pm in Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall.

Sunday, July 6

l The rededication of the Joe Longster Bandstand from 2pm to 4pm.

l Music for a Summer’s Evening with the Chippendale Singers at Hampsthwaite Church at 7.30pm.

Monday, July 7

l Bringing stories to life with Rhoda Fraser, story telling session at Pateley Bridge Methodist Church from 2pm.

l Prince’s Farm Walk, starts 6.30pm includes art and a lime kiln.

Tuesday, July 8

l Living History, a guided tour at 2pm, lasting two hours, of Scar Village with Jack Haines who was born and brought up there.

l Rock climbing from 6.30pm (safety equipment provided) under supervision of Bewerley Park Centre staff.

l The art of dry stone walling demonstrated by David Griffiths, wall builder extraordinaire, at Middlesmoor Village Hall from 7.30pm.

Wednesday, July 9

l Nidderdale Folk, famous, infamous and odd-bods of the Dale. A talk by Eileen Burgess at 10am.

l Nidderdale Brass, 7pm to 9pm at the Jo Longster Bandstand.

Thursday, July 10

l Sailing and windsurfing, organised by Bewerley Park Centre at 6pm.

l David Nobbs, author of The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin will give a talk at Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.
