A TENNIS club has been recognised with a national award less than two years after forming at St John Fisher's school.
The club, established by tennis coach Sarah Jones in September 2006, received the Clubmark Award from the Yorkshire Lawn Tennis Association because of its commitment to coaching and developing sporting excellence.
Clubmark is a Sport England award designed to achieve quality in clubs across all sports, and it can also be used as a benchmark for schools to assess their own programs.
The tennis club, based on Hookstone Drive, has four outdoor floodlit courts and a year-round coaching programme for mini tennis, teenagers and adults.
St John Fisher's tennis club also runs holiday courses for children age four and upwards.
These are small courses designed to give children an opportunity to learn and play tennis with children of a similar age and ability.
This summer there will be three five-day courses on the weeks commencing July 28, August 4 and August 11. The courses run daily from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
