THE Queen has announced plans to visit Harrogate in July to mark the 150th anniversary of the Great Yorkshire Show.
The Queen and Prince Philip will visit the landmark agricultural event on Thursday, July 10, marking the fourth time the Queen has attended the show.
It will be the second Royal appearance in Harrogate this year following Prince Charles’ visit to the Royal Hall in January. It will be the Queen’s first visit to the show since her Silver Jubilee Year in 1977.
The Queen, patron of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society between 1952 and 1997, visited the Great Yorkshire Show during her first year as patron when she was still Princess Elizabeth, and again in 1957.
The Great Yorkshire Show runs from Tuesday, July 8 to Thursday, July 10, at Harrogate’s Great Yorkshire Showground and show director Bill Cowling said he was delighted the Queen had chosen to visit.
He said: “We are delighted that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are visiting the Great Yorkshire Show, particularly during this, our 150th Show.
“It is a great honour to welcome Royal visitors to the Showground – and we look forward to the Queen seeing how the show has developed.”
Highlights of the show include a 30m-high Great Yorkshire show wheel, five cookery theatres featuring top chefs, 150 years of bridal fashion, and an equestrian display of one man and 12 horses.
Tickets are available online (www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk) or through the ticket hotline on 01423 541222, costing between £7.50 and £16.50, or £44 for families.
Tickets on the gate cost £20 for adults, £16 concessions, £9 children, with family tickets available for £51.
