ENTRIES have now passed the 500 mark for Harrogate Rotary Club's Nidderdale Charity Walk, which gives individuals a chance to raise money for an organisation of their choice.
The event takes place on Sunday, May 18.

Charles Jesper, who is helping to organise the walk, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to raise money for their own charity or organisation.

"All the participants have to do is to turn up on the day and do the walk – everything else is taken care of by the Rotary Club."

Walkers can choose from routes of seven, 15 and 22 miles, all of which start and finish in Pateley Bridge, and take in some of the most scenic parts of North Yorkshire.

There is also a four-mile walk for disabled people, starting at Scar House Dam and finishing in Lofthouse.

The event is now in its fifteenth year and has raised over half a million pounds for charity during that time. Last year, 1,200 people took part.

This year's walk is sponsored by the Black Sheep Brewery and Taylors Yorkshire Tea.

Registration forms are available from Brian Rushton, by calling 01423 885493, e-mailing brianrushton@bigfoot.com or logging on to the Rotary website, at www.harrogate.co.uk/harrogaterotary

One woman has entered the 15-mile option and will push a wheelbarrow all the way round. Brenda Andrews, an instructor and nursery supervisor at Horticap, has previously completed all the distances on the Nidderdale Walk and felt she needed a new challenge this year!

Anyone who would like to sponsor her in support of Horticap can call in to the nursery on Otley Road.
