Inaugural concert for Festival Chorus at Royal Hall

THE HARROGATE Festival Chorus is holding its inaugural concert at the Royal Hall on Wednesday, August 27.
The performance of Edward Elgar's Music Makers and John Rutter's Magnificat will follow an extended Bank Holiday weekend of intense rehearsals at Ashville College.
Soloists Anna Burford, mezzo-soprano, and Samantha Hay, soprano, will be accompanied by an orchestra of local professional musicians.
The event is the brainchild of the three musical directors, Lynn Hudson, Thom Meredith and John Dunford, and is in response to requests from a large number of singers from the North of England who had previously attended the Harrogate Choral Week to have a choral course over the summer period.
John Dunford, conductor of Ripon Choral Society and Wetherby Choral Society and director of music at Ashville College, will take charge of the final concert.
He said: "It is a great privilege to bring this marvellous opportunity to Harrogate.
"There is a great deal of excellent choral singing in this area and a huge sense of anticipation among the singers.
"I am looking forward to being able to conduct once again in the magnificent surroundings of the Royal Hall."
Tickets for the final concert are available from the Harrogate International Centre box office.
