HARROGATE residents are invited to a "falls awareness" stand at Morrisons supermarket tomorrow.
The event, being organised by NHS North Yorkshire and York Community and Mental Health Services and Age Concern Harrogate, is being held at the store on Hookstone Chase to coincide with the 2009 Falls Awareness Day on Tuesday, June 23.

The stand, available from 10am until 2pm, is open to everyone old or young, carers or family members or people who would like more information on falls.

There will representatives on hand to provide helpful tips and information on how older people can avoid potential falls and keep safe and healthy.

Dangers

NHS North Yorkshire and York Community and Mental Health Services Community wants to ensure that Harrogate residents are aware of the dangers of falls.

Its Falls Prevention Service is available to the over-65s.

Terri Spruce, from NHS North Yorkshire and York, said: "Our aim is to reduce the incidence of preventable falls, as well as raising awareness of potential risks that may lead to a fall.

"The Falls Practitioners visit people in their own homes and carry out a falls risk assessment.

"They give advice and information, provide equipment, discuss and help with concerns about continence, hearing, balance and vision.

"It's really important for people to attend an event like this to find out about the services available in their local communities."
