Harrogate services 'stretched' by housing increase

THE Local Development Framework will have an impact on a range of service providers across the district. From overcrowded dentists in Harrogate to the possibility of a new train station at Knaresborough, here's how groups said it would affect them.

THE North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust has said the health services across the district would be put under significant pressure if a new development at Penny Pot Lane or Cardale Park was given the go-ahead.

A spokesman said new developments will create a significant pressure on dental services in an area where existing provision is already under pressure with potential to lengthen waiting times for access to services.

A spokesman said: "Existing services are unlikely to have the capacity and infrastructure to cope with patient numbers on this scale."

Three new NHS dentists and additional funding would be required, costing around £450,000 each year, with a separate dentist needed in Knaresborough, costing a further £120,000.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust deputy chief executive Richard Ord said he had no comments to make about the development scenarios identified for housing growth for Harrogate and Knaresborough.
