A Harrogate model is raising awareness of domestic violence after becoming a victim herself.
Susana Williams, 31, has produced a calendar featuring a host of celebrities, to be sold in support of Women's Aid and Women's Refuge.

Those featured in the "Happy Places" calendar include Roxanne Pallett, whose Emmerdale character Jo Sugden has suffered violence at the hands of her screen husband, Andy; Bad Girls star Claire King; Channel 4 Secret Millionaire Carl Hopkins and former Rovers Return landlady Denise Welch.

Another star of the calendar is Harrogate solicitor Marilyn Stowe, recognised as one of the country's leading family and divorce lawyers. She is pictured at Roundhay Park, Leeds, with her two dogs.

Happy haven

Susana said: "Being a victim of violence myself I wanted to turn a negative into a positive, hence this calendar. It's called Happy Places because people who suffer violence often escape from their misery by taking their minds to a safe, happy haven.

"Mine is literally outside my front door – a park bench overlooking the Stray. This is where I often sit, think and let my mind wander. My experience has made me a stronger person.

"I am hoping the calendar will not only raise awareness about domestic violence, but also raise money for two organisations who offer women, men and children support and shelter in times of need."

Two thousand of the calendars have been printed and are being sold on Charity ebay for £7.99, plus postage and packaging.
