A PROMISING Harrogate motorcyclist has died after a crash at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on Sunday.
Ben Lightowler, 22, who was a former Rossett School pupil, was taking part in the final race meeting of the season when he lost control of his bike at the first bend.

He died on Sunday evening.

Ben had already won the competition he was taking part in, the British Motorcycle Racing Club's (BRMC) 2008 Championships Stocksport 600 junior class.

Devastated

Mike Dommett, CEO of the BRMC, said: "This is a sad loss to the club.

"Ben was a very engaging, delightful and affable young man who had great talent for his age."

Rossett School headteacher Pat Hunter said everybody at the school had been affected by Ben's death.

"We're all devastated by the news," she said.

"Ben was a bright and cheerful young person who, in the sixth-form, was part of our "Listeners" peer mentoring team. He was fully involved in the whole life of the school and is remembered really fondly by all of his teachers here at Rossett."
