A NEW equine section is to be introduced for this year's Countryside Live and a new indoor ring is to be built to accommodate it.
In addition, October's event will see master classes by the international show jumper and Olympic medallist, Graham Fletcher.

Bill Cowling, Honorary Show Director of the event at the Great Yorkshire Showground, said: "We are looking forward to a superb Countryside Live, and with the addition of equine classes, the appeal for visitors and the link to our rural roots is even stronger. As a society our commitment to promoting country life is well known, and equestrianism is an important part of that. "

Schedules are currently being finalised and entries will close on Thursday September 25.

One of the most important sections of the new section will be for BSPS Heritage Open Mountain and Moorland, with classes for lead rein, first ridden, ridden and working hunter ponies.

It is anticipated that the Coloured Pony section will be particularly popular amongst Yorkshire owners. The show is a qualifier for the CHAPS (UK) Winter Restricted Qualifiers and Championships 2008/9.

In addition there will be classes for Veteran ridden horses and ponies. Regional winners go on to compete at the Veteran Horse Society Showing Championship Supreme Final at Olympia in December.

Yorkshireman Graham Fletcher will be staging 40 minute training demonstrations and a show jumping master class each day of the event.

Countryside Live 2008 will be taking place on October 25 and 26 at the Great Yorkshire Showground.

Further information on the equestrian section is available from the Countryside Live Show Office on 01423 546206 or email anniec@yas.co.uk. For advanced tickets call 01423 541222 or visit www.countrysidelive.co.uk.

Please note dogs are not allowed on the Showground.
