THE COST of bus travel rises today with a 10 per cent increase in ticket prices.
Transdev Harrogate & District has cited increased fuel prices as the root cause.
Managing director Dave Alexander said: "During the last 12 months we have experienced an unprecedented increase in the cost of diesel fuel, costs to our business are currently 50 per cent higher than they were 12 months ago and there is currently no sign that they will reduce or even stabilise in the short to medium term.
"We have waited for as long as we could before taking this decision."
Not all types of tickets will be affected, and the change for period tickets is said to be minimal.
New prices from Harrogate bus station:
- Starbeck; going up from £1.30 to £1.50
- to Beckwith Knowle; will stay the same price at £1.50
- to Killinghall; going up from £1.80 to £2
- to Jennyfield; going up from £1.30 to £1.50.
