FINAL preparations are underway as the date for Harrogate's attempt to set a new world record draws ever nearer.
Organisers are putting together the final touches for the Big Picnic family fun day on Sunday July 13.

Sponsored by Asda stores and Pampers, an anticipated 1,000 people will gather in the Valley Gardens for a giant egg and spoon race to break the Guiness world record – currently set at 859 racers.

All money raised will go towards providing a canopy for the outdoor play area at Woodland's Children Ward at Harrogate Hospital. For more information contact Kirsty Minshall on 07823 537 332.

There's more in store for the Valley Gardens next Thursday, July 3, with the Barnardo's Big Toddle.

The sponsored half-mile walk promises a clown, refreshments and the hope of raising cash for the children's charity. Nationally, a target of £2.1m has been set.

Harrogate organiser Pauline Clark said: "It's good to see all that excitement and entertainment – not to mention toddling – going towards helping thousands of less fortunate children.

"Bring a picnic and make a day of it."
