SPECIALIST beds which can be used for treating patients in their own homes have been provided through the generosity of local county councillors.
The five fully-adjustable beds, donated by Harrogate Hospital and Community Friends to the Harrogate Joint Equipment Store, will be loaned out to patients in the community.

Friends chairman Andy Wilkinson thanked county councillors Bernard Bateman, Heather Garnett, John Marshall, John Savage, Cliff Trotter, John Wren, and former councillor Steve Macare for covering the £3,282 cost.

It means the Friends have so far spent or committed £34,500 this year to further improve local NHS healthcare.

Mr Wilkinson said: "The beds enable patients to be sent home earlier from hospital under the supervision of community teams, and they may be used for patients with chronic conditions.

"In the past there has been a long wait for these beds but the Friends have donated 18 in three years and only six patients are now waiting.

"The Joint Equipment store provides a very valuable service to the community from antiquated premises behind the Odeon Cinema, and the Friends are proud to support it."
