A BARBERSHOP choir is to introduce singing lessons for men in their bid to raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The Daytones Barbershop Harmony Chorus is to offer ten week singing courses to teach men to harmonise together.

Choristor Alan Thain said it would be a novel way of attracting new members as well as helping to raise money for charity.

"The whole aim is to enjoy sharing singing," he said.

" We want to encourage those whose skills vary from little or no singing to those with much more experience.

"The chorus originated in Wetherby in the early 90s and it was viewed as an opportunity for men, generally retired, to get together in the daytime to sing, hence the name Daytones.

"We are ever hopeful of attracting new members and strengthening the chorus, and we feel sure the idea of this singing course will help us to achieve our goal."

The club has grown to incorporate members from across the district, including Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough.

They now meet at their base in Clifford, Boston Spa, where the courses will be held from September 9.

The course will cost £10, some of which will be donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
