IN MARCH a short ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society in Leeds to commemorate the late Doreen Roberts, a founder member of the Claro Community Archaeology Group, and the contribution she had made throughout her long life to archaeology in Yorkshire. The various societies to which she had belonged, and of which she had been an officer, contributed to the purchase and framing of a print of Knaresborough Castle to which was added a dedicatory text.
This print was formally presented to the Yorkshire Archaeological Society by Ann Kirk, Chairman of the Harrogate Archaeological Society and Secretary of the Claro Group. Appreciations of Doreen were given by Gordon Foster, past President of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society, Eric Houlder, past Chairman of the Pontefract Archaeological Society, Peter Eaton, Secretary of the Harrogate Archaeological Society and David Hunt, Chairman of the Claro Community Archaeological Group. All the speakers warmly recalled their memories of Doreen and described the great contribution she had made to their societies by her hard work, experience, and enthusiasm.
