Student speaks of First Class degree gained during pandemic
Rachel Masterman was among those to have completed their studies at the University of Worcester this year.
She achieved First Class Honours in her degree in History.
“To be able to say I completed university with a First Class Honours in History makes me immensely proud,” said the 22-year-old.

Hide Ad“I cannot thank the staff at the University of Worcester, my family, and my friends enough, who supported my journey and made this achievement possible.”
Rachel, a former pupil at Boroughbridge Sixth Form, said completing her studies during the pandemic was difficult but praised the support she received.
“During the pandemic and national lockdown, I was in my final semester and completing my Independent Study,” she said.
“Although the pandemic made studying difficult, the University made the experience as best as it could have been and continued to offer support throughout.”

Hide AdRachel added: “The University of Worcester has not only helped me achieve academically, but it has also allowed me the opportunity to take part in various activities, such as achieving the Silver Worcester Award and voluntary work in the local community, becoming Chair of the History Society and being a Student Ambassador.
“My time at Worcester, the friends I made, and the memories I have will stay with me forever. I am so grateful for the constant support and encouragement my family, friends and the University gave me.”
Rachel is now studying for a Master’s in Conflict, Governance and Development at the University of York and seeking volunteer work in the local area.
“In the long-term, my hope is to find a career in the charity sector, specifically working with individuals effected by conflicts,” she said.

Hide AdUniversity of Worcester Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost, Professor Sarah Greer, said: “The class of 2020 faced some unique challenges in completing their final year, in very difficult external circumstances.
“I congratulate them all on their degrees, earned through their hard work and dedication in the face of adversity.
“I would also thank our outstanding academic staff who worked really hard to support students to achieve their full potential.
“Our students who earned a First Class Honours should rightly feel very proud of their outstanding achievements and I wish them all the very best in their future careers.”
