School Helps Launch New IT Firm

PUPILS who competed to design a mascot for a new IT firm have celebrated the business's launch.
Phil Willis MP presented Max Bridge, 10, a pupil from Starbeck Community Primary School, with a laptop for his skills in designing a SmartFixIT mascot.
Second place winner, Dion Johnson, 8, won an iPod and runners up Elliot Robshaw, Megan Pearson, Melissa Person and Ryan Parry won xxs hard drives.
Following the presentations, Phil Willis, gave a short talk on the IT issues facing rural communities. He said: "The UK is massively behind other countries in developing ideas and technology - there is a feeling that all the best brains go overseas - but we are seeing the development of a number of small entrepreneurial companies who are bucking this trend."
SmartFixIT is recruiting local engineers to help consumers and businesses alike with all makes and models of computer hardware and software. The firm provides in-home services including emergency call outs, healthchecks, PC set ups, networking and broadband installation.
