LOCAL design company Studio One has worked closely with students from Harrogate College to brighten up the hoardings around the site of the planned £3.4 million site of Harrogate library.
Working with Harrogate Borough Council, and sponsors Stowe Family Law, the hoardings are now in place.

Students from Harrogate College have been working on designs based on the concept of the "written word" for the section facing the rose garden.

The official opening of the works last month was a great success and the Mayor of Harrogate Coun Pat Jones attended with representation from Harrogate Council, North Yorkshire County Council, Stowe Family law LLP and Harrogate College.

Sculptures of the students had also been erected in the rose garden.

Studio One was approached by Harrogate College to advise and work with their students on this project.

The students visited the studio on several occasions to ask advice on their initial conceptual ideas, then popping back for advice on pre production, artwork and set up.

“When it came to production, we invited the students back in to see how the panels were produced, giving them samples of print for their course work, and an opportunity to see how a design and production studio works on a live project,” said Tracy Houseman, creative director at Studio One.

“The students, all of whom are about to complete their foundation in art and design at Harrogate College, were professional and very proactive in their approach with us.

“I completed a similar course several years ago and it was an extremely important time for me and really helped me get a good grounding in the design field so if we can give a little back in offering our expertise and time, on this project for the students, then that’s great.”

Dean Houseman, managing director of Studio One, said: “We try our very best to help and work with Harrogate College, and have had students on work placement over the last two years, both of which were of a very high standard.

“The students are all very interested in their work, and keen to learn more, and we are more than happy to help them understand the procedures involved in a design project from concept to completion.

“We are in a good position at Studio One, as we can utilise our in house production facilities and knowledge, combined with our design expertise, to help the students realise their projects.”
