BUSINESS Link Yorkshire is offering a record number of free workshops to help the region's social enterprises – businesses that reinvest their profits back into communities.
Throughout the year Business Link will be running 220 events designed specifically to help entrepreneurs set and develop social enterprises.
Workshops will run in Thirsk at Rural Arts, The Old Courthouse, Westgate on September 30 from 9.30am to 1
2.30pm and 1.30pm-4.30pm.
Antony Radley, head of social enterprise at Business Link, said: “Social enterprise is recognised as an increasingly important business model. Young entrepreneurs in particular are often motivated by the ethical perspective of ploughing profits back into communities.
“However, social enterprises still need the skills to compete in a commercial market and face the same challenges as more traditional businesses.
“Ideas can be as diverse as recycling schemes, services for older people or innovative childcare. Increasingly social enterprises might be providing services for the public sector. The common factor is that profit is reinvested into communities in order to have greater social impact, as opposed to being divided amongst shareholders.”
Workshop topics include business ideas for social enterprises, legal structure and governance, business planning, how to access finance, how to win public sector work, employing people, marketing, social accounting and opportunities in the heath sector.
