BELZONA Polymerics has begun work on a £3.5m investment to expand its Claro Road site in Harrogate.
The firm is developing its state-of-the-art facilities in response to strong business growth and increasing export sales.
The start of work on the extension was marked with live music and a barbecue for staff, directors and overseas visitors as Christine Svendsden, wife of the firm’s founder Jorgen Svendsen, used a silver spade to break the ground.
Belzona’s managing director, Dr Paul Battey, said: “The building extension has become necessary far sooner than we initially anticipated because of the dramatic growth of our business in recent years, particularly on the export side.
“This success has created the need for additional manufacturing capability as well as the space to house the extra personnel needed to support our rapidly growing business.”
The new extension is expected to be complete by Christmas, 2008.
