RIPON-based international franchise business Thomas Green's has opened a new outlet in Cyprus.
The expat supermarket business has opened its latest store just in time for the holiday season on the island.

Thomas Green’s helps entrepreneurs set up and run their own British grocery business. It enables franchisees to sell well known British food brands to expats with support across all areas and provides a real chance to run a business with the backing of a proven brand and international network.

This is the first Thomas Green British Supermarket to be opened so far East.

Managing Director of Thomas Green’s, Philip Evans said: “In our shops in France and The Netherlands we find that many of our customers are from the local population, whereas in Spain and Portugal they tend to be resident expats and holidaymakers.

“In this new shop we expect that it will be from those from Britain."

Expats together with the growing band of "native" shoppers in the Netherlands, Spain, Ibiza, Portugal and France can take advantage of this slick grocery operation, the only one to have both shops and on-line van delivery.

In some of the French locations, the local people can make up almost 90 per cent of the customer base.

This latest Thomas Green franchisee has owned and run a hardware shop in Buckingham for 30 years. Grandfather Terry Ward and his wife Christine decided to leave UK for warmer and more exciting climes, and, having spent many family holidays on the island, it was to Cyprus they turned.

He sold both the shop and the family home and is starting this new life in Cyprus.

The shop is in Derynia, near Famagusta in the popular residential area of Paralimni in the south east of the Island. The village offers a traditional Cypriot way of life, but is rapidly becoming a holiday and visitor destination.

“We know we are the only operation to supply quality British brands across several western European countries, under a franchise, and that provides online sales as an added benefit.

“We have a very exciting year ahead of us, opening supermarkets in new European countries and major cities, and are delighted that we can spread tastes of Britain to an ever growing European customer base,” said Philip.
